The low and spreading habit, the slender upright stems bearing loose clusters of bright blue to blue-violet flowers, and the medium green foliage with small opposite leaves evoke Veronica austriaca subsp. teucrium, widely spread in Europe up to the Iberian Peninsula, where it occupies dry lawns, edges, and sunny grassy slopes on limestone.

The particularly intense and clear blue hue, clearly visible in both overview images, is characteristic of this group. The massive and simultaneous blooming, which literally covers the ground in blue, is one of the most striking spectacles these Iberian lawns can offer in spring.
