Horticultural selection of the coastal perennial from the Caryophyllaceae family, whose type species is native to the cliffs and coastal rocks of Western Europe. This cultivar is radically different from all other forms of the species due to its variegated foliage, which is its main attraction.
The leaves, oval and fleshy, are marked with a cream to pale yellow center bordered with green, with pink to rosy hues clearly visible on the margins and stems, especially pronounced in cool weather or late in the season. This tricolor effect gives the tuft a bright and colorful appearance throughout the growing season, regardless of flowering. The habit is prostrate and spreading, forming a dense cushion 5 to 10 cm in height.
The flowers are white, simple, borne on short stems above the foliage, with the swollen calyxes characteristic of the species. In its natural habitat, the flowering of the type species extends from May to August; in cultivation, this cultivar blooms from May to July, but it is primarily a foliage plant.
It requires well-drained soil, poor to moderately fertile, in full sun. Like all variegated plants, it can revert to the green form; reverted parts should be removed. Suitable for rock gardens and troughs.
