Garden hybrid obtained by crossing the coastal subspecies from Landes with the horticultural selection with a light calyx, within the Caryophyllaceae family. It is a cultivated hybrid, not stabilized as a named cultivar, and the information available about it remains limited to field and cultivation observations.
The plant forms a generous and bushy clump, visibly more voluminous than the subspecies thorei, with an intermediate habit between the prostrate and spreading character of one parent and the more upright and airy appearance of the other. The foliage is dark green, with oval leaves reminiscent of subsp. thorei.
The simple white flowers, with slightly fringed petals, are produced in very large quantities, borne by numerous slender stems above the foliage. The swollen, globular calyxes, particularly well-developed, mature into very characteristic beige to light brown hues, clearly visible here and distinct from both parents. In its natural habitat, the flowering of the type species extends from May to August; this hybrid blooms in cultivation from May to July approximately.
It requires poor, perfectly drained soil, in full sun, and does not tolerate stagnant winter moisture. A collector's plant, rarely found outside specialized gardens.
