Sempervivum sp2

Sempervivum sp2 in bloom in a well-drained substrate in full sun
Sempervivum sp2 aff. arachnoideum -DA-

Succulent perennial of the Crassulaceae family. This plant, acquired without a precise label, presents characteristics that clearly relate it to the Sempervivum arachnoideum group, without a specific identification or cultivar being established with certainty. Houseleeks with cottony fleece sold in commercial circuits are frequently hybrids or undocumented selections.

The rosettes are small, very tight, with narrow and pointed leaves, of a medium green slightly tinged with reddish-brown at the tip and base. Their most immediately striking feature is the presence of a fleece of silky white threads that closes the center of each rosette, a characteristic inherited from S. arachnoideum. On this tuft, the density of these cottons varies according to the rosettes, some being almost entirely veiled in white, others barely threaded, creating a very contrasting texture effect on the whole cushion.

Stolonization is abundant and rapid, producing a compact and dense, low and geometric tuft.

Culture in full sun, very well-drained, poor substrate. Hardy. Particularly effective in limestone rock gardens or stone troughs.
