Evergreen perennial of the Saxifragaceae family, this cultivar belongs to the hybrid group × geuderi, listed in the Porphyrion section of Kabschia saxifrages. Its cultivar name, borrowed from the famous mischievous character of German folklore Till Eulenspiegel, is of German or Austrian horticultural origin, like many hybrids of this group.
The plant forms a dense and regular cushion of small, tight rosettes, with narrow, rigid leaves, grayish-green to glaucous, slightly calciferous at the margins. The habit is very compact, not exceeding a few centimeters in height, and the cushion slowly widens. The silvery texture of the foliage, visible under certain lights, is one of the most immediately noticeable traits of the plant outside of flowering.
The flowers, borne at the cushion level on very short stems, are a rather peculiar lemon yellow to yellow-green, with well-rounded and slightly crinkled petals. This slightly acidic hue distinguishes them from the more straightforward yellow of other Kabschia hybrids with yellow flowers. In cultivation, flowering occurs in spring, generally in March-April.
Like other representatives of this section, 'Eulenspiegel' requires a very well-drained, mineral substrate, sheltered from excessive winter rains. It is ideally grown in pots or containers under a cold frame, or in a very well-drained rock garden in a sunny exposure.
