Primula 'Barnhaven Pixies'

Primula 'Barnhaven Pixies'

Perennial hybrid from the Primula × juliana group, resulting from the cross between Primula vulgaris from Western Europe and Primula juliae from the Eastern Caucasus. This group of cultivars was developed by Barnhaven nurseries, founded in the United States in the 1930s by Florence Bellis, before the collection was transferred to Brittany, where it is now maintained and developed. The origin of these strains is therefore resolutely transatlantic before becoming European.

The 'Barnhaven Pixies' form small, low, dense clumps with bright green, blistered, and crenate foliage typical of the group. Their flowering covers an exceptionally wide color range — from pure white to deep purple, including all shades of pink, red, lavender, and bicolor — making it a set rather than a fixed cultivar with a single color.

In cultivation, flowering extends from February to April. Same requirements as the entire group: cool, humus-rich soil, partial shade, regular division of clumps.
