Unnamed collection seedling, family Primulaceae. Horticultural hybrid resulting from the cross between Primula auricula and Primula hirsuta, this seedling illustrates one of the most elaborate expressions of the group, with a floral structure of remarkable precision and a complex color palette.
The open flower features widely spread petals, strongly undulated and fringed on their edges, of an intense and velvety purple-violet, traversed by darker veins that accentuate the depth of the color. The shade gradually lightens towards the center in pale lavender mauve, before giving way to a very clear, ample and well-defined white farinaceous eye, at the center of which emerges a greenish tube. The still closed bud, visible below, is a very dark purple-black, almost brown-black, strongly contrasting with the open flower.
The foliage is bright green, smooth and shiny, without apparent farina, with well-fleshed spatulate leaves. This absence of farina directs this seedling towards the heritage of Primula hirsuta rather than auricula for the foliage, while the flower, with its farinaceous eye and size, is more reminiscent of auricula.
In its natural habitat, the flowering of the parent species extends from April to June. In cultivation, it occurs in April-May. Strict drainage, lightened humus-rich substrate, and protection against prolonged winter rains are essential conditions to maintain this type of seedling in good health.
