Primula x pubescens

Unnamed collection seedling, family Primulaceae. Horticultural hybrid resulting from the cross between Primula auricula and Primula hirsuta, this seedling expresses one of the most delicate shades that the group can produce, in a mauve-lilac range rarely so pure.

The leaves, clearly visible at the base of the plant, are broad, spatulate, a bright green and slightly velvety, without marked farinaceous bloom. The flowers are borne in an umbel on a short stem; their petals, broad and slightly overlapping, display a soft and luminous mauve-lilac color, traversed by more pronounced fine veins that give them a subtle texture. The center is occupied by a large white farinaceous eye, abundantly powdery, at the heart of which the yellow-orange stamens form a warm and precise point of color.

The transition between the mauve of the petals and the white of the eye is gradual and gentle, contributing to the overall impression of lightness. The bluish tones of this seedling are among the most sought after in the pubescens group, where they remain less common than reds or yellows.

In its natural habitat, the flowering of the parent species extends from April to June. In cultivation, it occurs in April-May. Careful drainage, humus-rich soil, partial shade, and protection from stagnant winter moisture are the conditions to be met.
