Phedimus florifer 'Weihenstephaner Gold'

Cultivar of a perennial belonging to the Crassulaceae family, selected from a species native to East Asia, Korea, and Japan. The genus Phedimus was separated from the genus Sedum, to which this plant was formerly attached under the name Sedum floriferum.

It forms a dense, creeping mat, reaching 5 to 8 cm in height, gradually spreading to cover large areas. The leaves are small, fleshy, oval, and slightly toothed, of a medium green that takes on reddish to bronzed hues in sunny conditions or at the end of the season, as the photos clearly show with this mix of green, orange, and red tones depending on the stage of flowering.

The star-shaped flowers, bright yellow to golden yellow, are gathered in dense corymbs that abundantly cover the plant. In its natural habitat, flowering extends from June to July. In cultivation, it occurs at roughly the same period.

It requires a sunny exposure, well-drained soil, even poor and dry. Perfectly hardy, it is suitable for rock gardens, walls, green roofs, and dry borders. Its ease of cultivation and generous flowering make it a reliable choice for mineral compositions.
