Selected cultivar of Edelweiss, a perennial from the Asteraceae family, 'Mignon' stands out from the type species primarily due to its exceptional floriferousness. The habit remains comparable to that of wild forms, but the clump produces a multitude of simultaneous inflorescences that almost entirely cover it at anthesis, creating a dense and bright bouquet effect difficult to achieve with an ordinary collected specimen.
The bracts are narrow, elongated, of a very pure woolly white, slightly curved towards the tips, giving them a slender and elegant appearance. The foliage is medium green to bright green, slightly tomentose, forming a low clump of 10 to 15 cm on which the flowering stems barely rise. The central capitula, small and cream-yellow, remain discreet in view of the radiant white ensemble surrounding them.
In its natural habitat, the species blooms from July to September. In cultivation, 'Mignon' blooms generously from June to July, sometimes slightly reblooming at the end of summer.
It requires the same conditions as the type species: very well-drained, poor soil, sunny exposure, mineral mulching at the collar. It is its constant floral generosity, year after year, that justifies the place of this cultivar in a well-maintained collection.
