Selected cultivar of Dionysia aretioides, an Iranian species of the Primulaceae family. 'Bevere' is distinguished from the type species by the exceptional vigor and generosity of its flowering, and by the slightly larger size of its flowers, with well-rounded petals of a particularly intense and saturated yellow, with a small discreet orange central eye.
The cushion is hemispherical, very dense and well-rounded, composed of tight rosettes of small pubescent oval leaves, gray-green. At full bloom, the foliage completely disappears under a compact mass of flowers that transforms the cushion into a sphere of bright gold — a spectacular effect that few alpine plants can match on this miniature scale.
In its natural habitat, the species blooms from March to May depending on altitude. In cultivation, 'Bevere' often blooms as early as late winter, between February and April.
As with the type species, cultivation requires a very mineral and drained substrate, rigorous protection against stagnant winter moisture, and good light without excessive summer heat. Unglazed terracotta pot, cold alpine greenhouse or well-ventilated frame remain the ideal conditions for obtaining adult cushions of this quality.
