Anemone nemorosa 'Vestal'

Cultivar with double or semi-double flowers of the wood anemone, considered by many connoisseurs as one of the most elegant and refined among the double white forms, distinctly different from 'Alba Plena' by the particular structure of its flower.

The flower presents an original and immediately recognizable architecture: an outer ring of wide, flat, and well-developed tepals, of pure white, forms a spread collar framing a dense and pompon-like central button, composed of small, tightly packed, short, and erect petaloid pieces, also white, evoking a pompon heart or an anemone with a raised center. This structure in two distinct parts — flat peripheral crown and central dome — gives it a look that is both neat and precious, different from the uniformly flat rosette of 'Alba Plena'. The whole is of a bright white, without creamy shade, of great purity.

Moderate floral size, 3 to 4 cm, borne on slender stems of 15 to 20 cm. Bright green trisected foliage, similar to the species. Blooming from April to May. Sterile cultivar, multiplying only by division of rhizomes, naturally slow spreading. Robust and reliable plant once established, gradually naturalizing in favorable conditions.

Highly appreciated in connoisseur gardens for the discreet sophistication of its flower, which combines the apparent simplicity of the wild species with a subtle structural complexity. Willingly associated with colorful cultivars like 'Allenii' or 'Robinsoniana' to create contrasting spring scenes in woodland.
