Subspecies described from the Caucasus and the mountainous regions of Central Asia, dedicated to the Russian botanist Boris Mikhailovich Koso-Poljansky.

Distinguishes itself from the type by subtle morphological characteristics affecting notably the density and length of leaf hairiness, the size of the rosettes, and certain floral details.

Like the type species, it appreciates well-drained rocky substrates in sunny exposure.
