Androsace muscoidea 'Breviscapa'

Androsace muscoidea 'Breviscapa', dense whitish alpine cushion with white flowers with a yellow center very close to the foliage
Androsace muscoidea 'Breviscapa'

The type species originates from the rocky slopes and dry areas of the Himalayas, from Pakistan to eastern Nepal and Tibet, between 3,600 and 5,200 meters in altitude. It forms loose cushions of silvery-silky globular rosettes 5-10 mm, often arranged one above the other on reddish stems. The mauve to lilac flowers, with an orange or yellow eye, are borne in compact umbels of 2 to 8 flowers at the top of a 1 to 6 cm scape. Blooming from June to August.

The 'Breviscapa' cultivar is distinguished by its very reduced scapes, the white flowers with a yellow eye seeming to be placed directly on the cushion, and by a particularly dense and whitish tomentum. The flower buds are bright pink before lightening at anthesis.

In cultivation, very well-drained substrate, sunny exposure, winter protection against excessive moisture.
