Aethionema oppositifolium

Very small species, native to Lebanon and Turkey, forming dense and tight cushions only a few centimeters high, with opposite, oval, fleshy, and glaucous leaves, a rare characteristic in the genus that gives it its specific epithet.

The flowers are lilac pink to pale pink, small, borne in short clusters close to the foliage, in April-May.

It is suitable for cultivation in pots, alpine troughs, or very well-drained rock gardens, sheltered from excessive winter moisture.
