Aethionema armenum 'Warley Rose'

Hybrid cultivar derived from Aethionema armenum , obtained in the early 20th century in the famous Warley Place garden of Ellen Willmott in Essex.

Dwarf sub-shrub of the Brassicaceae family, forming a compact and persistent dome 15 to 20 cm in height, with woody stems at the base, bearing narrow, glaucous, blue-gray, persistent foliage.

The flowering is very abundant, from May to July, in dense clusters of small bright pink to carmine pink flowers, particularly luminous. It is one of the most ornamental and widespread cultivars of the genus.

It prefers full sun and very well-drained soil, calcareous or neutral, dry to moderately fresh; it is perfectly suited to rock gardens, walls, and gravel gardens.
